1. Barchart for Excel provides extensive access to historical data for Stocks, Options, Indexes, Futures, Currencies and more.

To access historical data, click the History button within the Barchart ribbon.

2. Let's enter the symbol for Google.  If you wanted to download historical options data on Google stock, click the Options button.

3. Let's also Apply a Study to our historical data.  Click the Apply Study menu on the right.

4. Once you find the Technical Study you want to apply, select it and click Apply.  You can also change the study settings within the dropdown menu.  We'll stick with the default 20 period setting for Moving Average.

5. For our historical data Time Period, let's stick with Daily.  And for our fields, Open, High, Low and Close, for that time period.  Click Insert and your data will be automatically added to Excel.

6. Now that you have added Daily historical data for Google.  Let's add some more data.  Click the History menu again.

7. This time, let's download some futures historical data for the e mini S&P 500.  Add let's select 1 minute data.  In addition to Minute and Daily data you can also select Tick data, Weekly, Monthly and customizable time periods.

8. Click Insert and your data automatically loads.

9. If you want the historical data to update, go to Preferences and select "Yes" for Historical Data Refresh.  Each time you reopen this file, your historical data will be updated with the most recent data.
