1. This is an interactive tutorial intended to teach you how to register for classes. The images used in this tutorial are examples.

2. The first step is to go to the Northern Virginia Community College Website (www.nvcc.edu) and click on
the myNOVA button on the top right corner.

3. Click myNOVA Login

|
4. Click on the Username box, type in your Username. Typically, it is your initials follow by a short series of numbers. If you forgot your Username,
click on the Forgot Username link.

5. Click on the Password box and type in your Password. If you forgot your Password, click on the Forgot Password link.

|
6. Click SIGN IN

|
7. Click Launch in the SIS: Student Information System Application.

|
8. Click on My Student Information

|
9. Click Class Search

|
10. Click Class Search again

|
11. This is the search engine you will use to search for classes! Always make sure to have Northern Virginia Community College as Institution.

|
12. You will need to select the correct term each time. Click on the drop-down arrow in the Term section.

|
13. For this example, click on 2021 Summer.

|
14. Next to Subject, type in the course in which you would like to enroll. At NOVA,
we indicate courses with a three-letter acronym. Look at your Program of Study
or transfer guide to find your classes. In this example, type in SDV (Student Development).

15. Leave Course Number as is exactly. Then type in the course number that corresponds
to the correct class. Look at your Program of Study or transfer guide to find
your classes. In this example, type in 100.

16. Click on the drop-down arrow in the Course Career section.

17. Select Credit

|
18. Click on the drop-down arrow in the Campus section.

|
19. Select
your preferred campus. For this example, we used the Manassas Campus.

|
20. Click Search

|
21. Now we can see all the available SDV 100 classes for the summer 2021 term at the Manassas Campus. To know if a class section is available, our Status Key
indicates which are Open, Closed, and Wait List.

22. There are 7 class sections available for SDV 100 for the summer
2021 term at the Manassas Campus.

23. Let’s explore each column!

|
24. The course number is under Class. The course number is
unique and only belongs to that class section.

|
25. Let's discuss the Section column.

|
26. This is the number and letter combination that shows your specific class section.

|
27. The last letter, M, indicates the campus where the class is from. (Tip: A is for Alexandria, N is for Annandale, L is for Loudoun, M is for Manassas, MEC is for Springfield, and W is for Woodbridge).

28. This indicates if the class is either a lecture (LEC) or lab (LAB).

|
29. The bottom row indicates the length of the class. In this example, Six Wk 1 means that the course will be in the first six weeks of the semester.

30. Days & Times shows when classes are in the
week and the time duration.

|
31. Room shows if the class will
be in person (on-campus), online (no days or times showed as TBA), or virtual (live
through Zoom). In this example, it is a VIRTUAL class.

32. Under Instructor is the name of
the professor for that particular class section.

|
33. Under Meeting Dates are the
start date and the end date of that particular class section.

|
34. Status indicates if the class
section is Open, Closed, or Wait List. In this example, the class is open!

35. To view the class details for
a particular section, Click 50YM-LEC
Six Wk 1 under the Section header.

36. This is the Class detail page.
It shows you important information such as Class Availability, Class Notes, and
a Description of the class. Always read the Class Notes! Click View Search Results to return to the list.

37. Let’s look at some examples! This
class is a second six-week course that starts on June 14 and ends on July 26. This
course is a virtual course that meets every Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:05 am
via Zoom.

38. This class is a first eight-week
course that starts on May 17 and ends on July 11. This course is an online course
which means that there is no meeting day or time. Review the class notes for more detailed information about this particular section.

39. Let’s go ahead and enroll in a
class! Select a class that works best with your schedule and learning style. In
this example, we chose the first section. Click Select to continue.

40. Always read the Class Notes! Class notes provide you with important details about that specific section of the course related to the class format and basic expectations.

41. Click Next

|
42. Like online shopping, if it’s in
your cart, you have not paid for it. If you leave your class in your shopping cart, you could
lose your chance to enroll in that class section (it could get filled up!) To
ensure your spot, you must enroll.

43. Click on the Shopping Cart link.

|
44. To enroll in the class, you must first check off the Select box.

|
45. Click Enroll

|
46. Click Finish Enrolling

|
47. You have now successfully
enrolled in a class! If you get an error, read the message to find
out what error it is. Usually, students receive an error message when they have hold(s),
time conflict, or prerequisite(s) to fulfill.

48. Let’s check our Class schedule
page! Click on the Enroll tab.

|
49. Then click on the My Class Schedule tab.

|
50. You will automatically see
your classes in the List View display option on the My Class Schedule page.

|
51. To find all your textbooks and
course material, click on the Bookstore Textbook Information link, which will
take you directly to our Barnes & Noble webpage.

52. You can also view your classes
in a calendar format. Click Weekly Calendar View to change the display.

|
53. Now you can see your classes in a calendar! If
your classes start at different times in the semester, you may need to change
the week. If you have evening classes, you may need to adjust the time. Online
courses do not appear on the calendar.

54. Let’s learn how to drop a
class from our schedule! Scroll up and click Drop.

|
55. Select the correct term. In this example, the correct term is 2021 Summer.

56. Click Continue

|
57. Select the class you wish to drop. In this example, we selected the SDV 100-50YM class.

58. Click Drop Selected Classes

|
59. Click Finish Dropping

|
60. You have now successfully dropped a class!
