1. This tutorial will show you how to easily find physical books using Oria.
2. At the Library's website you will find the search tool Oria. In Oria you can search for books, scientific articles and much more. Both in paper and electronic versions. |
3. Find a specific book
4. Enter the book title into the search field. In this example, we will search for a norwegian book about academic writing, "Den gode oppgaven". |
5. Click the "Search in Oria" button to execute the search.
6. The book is quite unique. You will easily find it in the results list. |
7. However, if what you are looking for is hard to find on the results list, you can narrow down the search using filtering options on the right. You can filter results by the resource type, language or year of publication. |
8. To view only physical materials, select a filter for "Physical Documents" (Fysiske dokumenter) or material type "Print Books" (Trykte bøker).
9. Shelf location and availability
10. When you have found a book that you are interested in, you can check if it is available. In this case, we have two editions of the book. Click on the link to see which ones. |
11. The latest edition is available, as you can see from the link at the bottom of the book entry. Click the title or the link for more information. |
12. Under "Finn og Bestill" ("Get It"), you will see a list of all libraries that have the book.
13. Here you can see how many copies are available, for example, at the Medical Library at Haukeland, abbreviated as UBBMED.
14. At the Library for Fine Art and Design, the book is checked out.
15. At the Library for Social Sciences, Music and Psychology, almost all copies are checked out, but there is also one copy available for in-library use.
16. The code beside the library name indicates the shelf location.
17. You will find the same code on the spine of the book.
18. The library shelves are labeled with signs to help you locate the specific codes.
19. Books available in open collections can be picked up from the shelves and borrowed at the self-service desk.
20. Books in closed collections
21. Not all books are available on the open shelves. Certain books are stored in closed collections or remote warehouse, and need to be retrieved by library staff. You can request these items via Oria and pick them up once you receive a notification. |
22. Remember to log in to Oria to place a request. See how to request books from closed collections in another tutorial. |
23. Now you know how to easily find physical books using Oria. Contact the Library if you have any further questions. Go to the library's website for contact details and more. |
